Biograph was established in 1895 at the dawn of a new century. No other film company can claim the extraordinary and rich background that Biograph has had throughout the years. To this day the name "Biograph" can be found in almost every encyclopedia and book on the motion picture industry. Biograph was the first company to be contracted by the White House in 1900, the first to film the Pope at the Vatican, to be the first movie production company and to produce the first known film in Los Angeles, California and to make the first movie in Hollywood in 1910 which turned Hollywood from a small farming town to the movie and entertainment capital of the world. Biograph broadened the artistic realm of audiences, guiding motion pictures into maturity and nurturing its universal language. Many early stars developed their craft with Biograph, such as Mary Pickford, Lionel Barrymore, and Lillian Gish.

Biograph is the official distribution and licensing division for the titles in Biograph's library. This includes rare films from the turn of the century through 1929. Biograph also distributes other properties for television, cable, and home video/DVD.
