Carl "ALFALFA" Switzer - in 1938

Of all the Our Gang stars, most people seem to be interested in Alfalfa. What happened to Alfalfa? Was Alfalfa killed in a bar fight? Was he shot in a dispute over fifty dollars owed him? Based on newspaper stories from the time there are many inaccuracies and conflicting stories of what really happened. The truth has been twisted in so many ways, it is hard to tell  exactly what happened.

The confusing facts are Alfalfa and a friend Jack Piott went to collect money from a man named Bud Stiltz who was a part time manager of a Dude ranch in Los Angeles.

On the evening of January 21st, 1959. Bud Stiltsz claimed that Alfalfa threw a knife at him across the room. Bud then shot Alfalfa in the stomach, and Alfalfa was pronounced dead. Bud Stiltz claimed that Alfalfa had pulled a knife on him and that is why he shot him. Stilts also claimed, after being shot in the stomach closed the knife. The knife was found under Alfalfa's body.

There were two different stories. Even though Stiltz said that Alfalfa had thrown the knife across the room at him.  Alfalfa's friend Jack Piott said that Alfalfa was unarmed and there was no knife involved.  Bud Stilts never went to trial, and he got off on  self  defense and walked away Scott- free.

Was someone out to kill Alfalfa?

Was the dog story used as a smoke screen to cover up the truth?

Did Bud Stiltz have any previous arrests after he shot Alfalfa?

Why didn't the police take Alfalfa's friend, Jack Piott's word over Bud Stiltz?

Why wasn't this shooting investigated further?
